Many companies face class action lawsuits for unethical practices and damages every year.
Most of them have an experienced team of corporate attorneys, so it’s doubtful they’ll face the full extent of the law. Instead, most opt to compensate their victims by offering settlement packages, often worth millions.
If you’re eligible for any of these cases, you can get paid up to thousands of dollars simply by signing up. Here are a few class action lawsuits to keep an eye out for in 2023!
American Airlines
American Airlines offers passengers exclusive perks for those who sign up for the premium programs. Some of these extra perks included baggage fee waivers. But due to a problem with the company’s airport software, many members eligible for free check-in bags were forced to pay.
The airline has agreed to pay a minimum of $7.5 million to compensate eligible members who had to pay baggage fees between February 24, 2017, and April 9, 2020. The airline will issue a full refund for every piece of baggage you had to pay for.
AA’s standard fees range from $30 to $200, so the total amount you receive depends on your case. To get paid, visit the official website and submit your claim before February 23, 2023. Once the airline verifies your information, they’ll send you a reading via PayPal or a check in the mail.
Proctor & Gamble
The consumer goods giant Proctor & Gamble (P&G) has recently agreed to pay a cash settlement of $8 million after recalling many of its aerosol products due to benzene contamination. While the chemical is used for plastic production, it can be extremely harmful and cause cancer.
Some of the aerosol products that were recalled included dry shampoos, deodorants, body spray, and antiperspirants from popular household brands, including:
- Secret
- Pantene
- Herbal Essences
- Hair Food
- Waterl<ss (pronounced “waterless”)
If you used any of the associated items between November 4, 2015, and December 31, 2021, you’re eligible for a refund for every product you purchased.
Class members who don’t show proof of purchase are eligible for up to $10.50 in total refunds. On the other hand, those who do will be compensated for every product. Visit the official website and file a claim before January 26, 2023, to get your payout.
Apple
Between 2015 and 2019, Apple sold millions of laptops with defective keyboards with keys that would stick or wouldn’t work. Despite customer complaints, the tech giant still forced the plaintiffs to pay for multiple repairs out of pocket.
To settle the issue, Apple agreed to a class action lawsuit payout of $50 million for their actions.
The settlement covers most MacBook models sold between 2015 and 2019 and customers from one of three groups:
Group 1: Members with two case replacements.
Group 2: Members with one case replacement.
Group 3: Members with one or more keycap replacements.
Anyone in the first group will automatically receive their payment. But if you’re in one of these three categories, you must file a claim before March 6, 2023, to be a part of the settlement payout and receive a refund for keyboard repairs.
Allura Fiber Cement
The cement siding manufacturer Allura recently agreed to a $12.5 million payout for allegedly selling defective cement to consumers. According to the official complaint, the poor quality has led to breaking, cracking, and other extensive property damage.
Settlement payouts are available to homeowners with cement siding manufactured in Allura’s plant in White City, Oregon, from February 1, 2014, to May 7, 2014, or Roaring River, North Carolina, from February 1, 2014, to February 18, 2015.
The exact amount by case, but you can receive free replacements, a quick cash payout, or exact cash compensation if you have proof. Submit your claim before June 23, 2023, if you’re eligible.
Wesson Oil
Wesson Oil faced a massive class action lawsuit over falsely advertising some of their products as “natural” despite being made with GMO ingredients. As a result, they have agreed to pay a settlement of $3 million as compensation for their actions.
You can be eligible for a payout if you’re from one of 11 states where Wesson sold these products. Each state also has a specific timeline for when the company engaged in the false advertising scheme. You can file a claim if you bought one of their cooking oils and live in the designated areas.
Anyone who qualifies for this settlement can receive $0.15 for each Wesson oil unit you bought during that time. You have until May 22, 2023, to submit your claim.
