Fetch Rewards Review: Gift Cards for Groceries

Fetch Rewards is a receipt scanning app that turns your store receipts into rewards. The company was founded in 2013 in Madison, Wisconsin. According to Crunchbase, Fetch has raised $26.6 million in funding, with its most recent Series A round taking place in November, 2018.

According to the company’s website, users earn points on grocery products every time they appear on a receipt, regardless of the place of purchase. These points can then be redeemed for hundreds of gift cards, such as Amazon, Visa, Sephora, Best Buy, Foot Locker and a lot more.

Fetch says that so far over one million people across the country have joined its online community. The app has a 4.7/5.0 rating on the iTunes App Store based on more than 115,000 reviews.

What is Fetch?

Fetch is a savings platform that rewards its users for uploading grocery receipts and for shopping with certain brands. In order to offer you gift cards, the company sells your data to its brand partners, giving brands insight into individual shopping patterns and seeking to strengthen their brand loyalty.

Fetch is a nice option for users seeking to put in relatively less effort than other competing apps. The platform does not require you to scan individual barcodes or clip coupons, and it automatically offers points to redeem for gift cards on eligible receipts.

Fetch differs from other apps that work directly with sellers because it rewards customers for uploading any grocery receipt and for buying brands regardless of the place of purchase. Fetch is also different because the company does not offer cash directly to users. Instead, users redeem points as gift cards and other valuable rewards.

The app also offers “special offer bonuses” for featured items. So far, Fetch says it has scanned nearly 77 million receipts.

How Does Fetch Work?

First, you must download the Fetch app and create an account. The app is available for free in the iTunes App Store or Google Play store.

How to Earn Points (1,000 points = $1)

  1. Upload any grocery receipt: You can scan any receipt from a grocery store, convenience store, drug store, club store, or liquor store regardless of the amount purchased. (Important: Receipts must be scanned within 14 days from purchase and must include the store name, items purchased, date of purchase, total amount and store address) Any eligible grocery receipt will get you 25 points each.
  2. Purchase any participating product: If your receipt includes any of their participating partner brands, you can earn anywhere between 250 and 3,000 points per offer.
  3. Receive Bonus Points: Additional points can be earned by completing tasks such as purchasing a special offer product or randomly given upon completing other tasks like scanning your first receipt.
  4. Refer a friend or family member: You can refer friends and have them sign up with your unique referral code. You’ll both get 2,000 bonus points ($2) when they complete their first receipt. There is no limit to the number of referral bonuses you can earn.

How to Get Your Cash

Now it’s time to redeem points for rewards. It can take anywhere from 24 to 48 hours to receive your points once you have scanned your receipt.

Once you reach a minimum of 3,000 points, or $3, you can head to the “Rewards” section of the app. There, you are able to browse hundreds of different reward options by category. Available rewards include gift cards to popular retailers like Amazon and Target. Users also have the option to donate earnings to the Red Cross.

Once you find a reward to redeem, tap the “Get This Reward” button and you’ll be sent your electronic gift. More instructions on how to obtain particular rewards are sent via email and could require that you input a gift card code upon checkout.

What You Need to Know Before Using Fetch

For new users, entering the code REWARD during sign-up will get you 2,000 Bonus Points ($2) on your first receipt.

While Fetchers may like the fact that there’s no requirement to activate deals before shopping, scan barcodes, take surveys, or watch ads, they must be diligent about saving receipts and uploading them to the app within 14 days of purchase.

Big savers might want to double up by using Fetch and a competing app like Ibotta for grocery savings. One blogger, who said in March that he had earned more than $500 in Amazon gift cards with Fetch in a little over a year, says he is sometimes able to earn double the cash back by using both Fetch and Ibotta for the same purchase.
