The COVID-19 pandemic has reshaped the way we live, work and interact with others. One major change? The introduction of the popular video conferencing service, Zoom. These past two years, we’ve all attended weekly happy hours with friends, scheduled work calls, and even fun, virtual celebrations like grandma’s birthday and your parent’s anniversary on Zoom. Now, there’s a way to get free money from Zoom (yes, really!) Let’s talk about how you can get money from this class action lawsuit against Zoom:

Why is Zoom Being Sued?

A class-action lawsuit is currently underway against Zoom on alleged “privacy and security concerns” that were supposedly violated by Zoom as it relates to its users.

These include:

  • User information was shared with and/or sold to third parties.
  • Zoom should have done more to prevent “unwanted meeting disruptions” by third parties. Think “zoom bombing:” when unwelcome strangers drop into a call.
  • Zoom advertised its platform as being an encrypted and secure “end-to-end” platform, while plaintiffs claim that it was not at the time.

Although many plaintiffs claim these points in the lawsuit, Zoom denies all of these allegations and claims no responsibility. The courts have not yet decided who is right or wrong, but Zoom has agreed to pay a total of $85 million to settle the suit and prevent any further lawsuits or long-term legal expenses. Additionally, Zoom has agreed to make changes to its practices and policies moving forward to better protect user information.

Many users should have received an email, but you can still claim your share if not. So let’s get to the good part: who’s eligible and how you can claim your settlement to get paid!

Who’s Eligible To Receive Claim Funds?

If you purchased a subscription to Zoom between March 30, 2016, and July 30, 2021, you can file a claim for $25 or 15% of the money you spent for your core subscription – whichever is greater.

If you had a free Zoom account and used, opened, or downloaded the app during that time, you’re eligible for $15 as part of the settlement.

The point is, it’s free money for Zoom users; don’t miss out! (As with all class-action lawsuits, the final amount paid to each eligible person will depend on how many people submitted a valid claim, administration costs, and more.)

How Do You Make A Claim?

Simply submit a claim HERE using the email associated with your Zoom account. If you didn’t receive an email or don’t have an email associated with a Zoom account, there’s an option to submit a claim if you still believe you might be eligible.

But you’ll have to hurry: the last day to submit a claim is March 5, 2022.

You’ll also be able to watch the live final approval hearing on April 7, 2022, at 9:30 AM to decide whether or not the settlement is approved. Use the Zoom link, webinar ID, and password below to watch for yourself!
