Earn Guap For Your Guac: Get Paid To Eat Avocado For Six Months

Kelly Sikkema

What are the two best green things in the world?

With apologies to Kermit the Frog, the answers are avocados and money.

Everyone knows that usually, guacamole will cost you a few extra bucks.

But researchers are willing to pay 1,000 study participants some cash to eat an avocado every day for six months.

Seriously – you can get paid to eat avocados.

The HAT study (Habitual Diet and Avocado Trial) aims to research the effects of regular avocado consumption on body fat and weight loss.

The five participating universities – Loma Linda, UCLA, Penn State, Wake Forest, and Tufts – are each looking for 250 applicants who can visit their site regularly.

Here’s the best part: all the avocados will be provided for you! Not only will you get paid for the study, you’ll get six months worth of guac goodness totally free.

But you’ll need a bit of luck too. Participants will be split into two groups after being chosen for the study. Members of the first group will eat one avocado every day for six months. The other, tragically, will have to eat two or fewer avocados each month.

Qualifications and Sign-Up Details

If you’re already a true avocado aficionado, you might not qualify for the study though. Participants cannot consume more than two avocados per months prior to the study.

Other qualifications for interested applicants include:

  • 25 years old or older
  • BMI of at least 25 for women, 27 for men
  • Willing to undergo two MRI scans of your abdomen
  • Not pregnant, lactating, or have an intention of pregnancy during the trial
  • No significant body weight change in the last year
  • No known chronic disease
  • Able to attend 8 clinic visits and complete 4 phone interviews

If you qualify, all you need to do to apply is schedule a 15-minute phone interview. Check out the HAT site to find contact information for each location. And if you’re selected, you get to live your lifelong dream of getting paid to eat avocados.

An avocado a day keeps the doctor away, so good luck!
