As the holiday season nears, retailers and stores are expanding their operations. Holiday shopping usually makes the end of the year the busiest quarter for many companies, and they often hire temporary, full-time workers to keep up with the pace. For instance, UPS plans to hire 100,000 seasonal workers this year, and they’re not alone.
Walmart is the latest major retailer to announce its holiday hires. Already the largest employer in the country, Walmart is planning to hire more than 20,000 seasonal associates this year.
“The holidays are always a special time, and this year, we think the season will mean even more to our customers,” said Greg Smith, Walmart’s Executive Vice President for Supply Chain in the U.S. “As more of them turn to online shopping, we want to ensure we’re staffed and ready to help deliver that special gift to their loved ones while continuing to fulfill our customer’s everyday needs.”
