Animal Shelter Looking for Volunteer Dog Snugglers
Need more canine and feline snuggles in your life?
The Humane Society in Tampa Bay, FL is looking for volunteer dog (and cat!) snugglers to help calm animals, which they call Companions. Any age can participate but those under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. In addition, there is a 6-month minimum commitment for at least 5 hours per month.
If you don’t live near this particular shelter, here’s where you can find your local Humane Society for similar programs or suggest that your local shelter start!
Volunteers are such a helpful and needed presence that typically shelters welcome any help they can get but they do look for ones that can commit a certain amount of time. After all, it takes them time to train volunteers too.
Did you know that volunteering can help mental stress and depression too? By connecting with and helping others, your mood improves, as we’re hard-wired to give. The more you give and help, the happier we feel! This improves your emotional health and depending on physical activity (*throws a ball for Fido), you’re getting some exercise too.
Not to mention, it can help with networking and potential careers in any field you decide to volunteer in.
All of this can lead to a more productive and healthier time spent, as well as time away from spending unnecessary money!
Happy snuggling.
