According to the calendar and that chill in the air, fall is here to stay. Personally, autumn is my favorite season. The weather is perfect, nature is at its most beautiful and there are tons of activities and fun things to do!

Throw on your coziest flannel and experience all autumn has to offer before winter rolls around. While it’s colder in some place than others, the great part about Autumn is how many outdoor activities there are. That means that even during the coronavirus pandemic, there’s plenty of ways to have fun and stay safe. You can social distance outside or cozy up at home with your loved ones. Here are some fun ways to get the most out of fall without taking too much out of your wallet.

Pumpkin Picking and Carving

See where Pumpkin Spice Lattes start! One of the easiest, cheapest and most fun things you can do every autumn is pumpkin picking.

Take friends and family to a local pumpkin patch to see the colors of fall at their best. After you find the perfect pumpkin to take home, you can spend a few hours decorating it at almost no extra cost.

Find Events in Your Neighborhood

Almost every community has some sort of “Fall Fest” planned in the next few weeks. These may be virtual events, or limited capacity with tickets, but many areas are still trying to bring fall fun to families during the pandemic.

Scan your local news or community calendar to see if there are any fun events coming up near you! It may not be a typical year of hayrides and haunted houses, but there’s still going to be tons to do!

Go Camping

If you’re the outdoorsy type, fall is the best season for hiking or camping. Compared to the summer camping season, you’ll have lower temperatures and fewer pesky bugs to deal with, as well as some breathtaking views of nature. Fall is also a prime bird-watching season, so don’t forget your binoculars.

Even if you’re not keen on camping, you can set up a tent in your backyard and roast some s’mores. That still counts!

If nothing else, you can take a picnic basket to a local park and enjoy the outdoors without having to camp overnight there.

Fall Food and Drinks

Autumn has no shortage of great seasonal snacks and beverages. There’s still time to find a local Oktoberfest celebration and indulge in some beer and bratwurst, or you can concoct some fall favorites at home.

Stew, pie, cider – the list of fall favorites that you can make in your kitchen is extensive. Check out your local farmers’ market to pick up some ingredients and get to work!

After you’re done with cooking, invite friends over for a potluck too!

Get in The Halloween Spirit

Halloween is the ultimate DIY holiday. After carving a spooky pumpkin, you can easily and cheaply decorate your home for the occasion. For instance, with a balloon, some fabric, and a marker you can have a ghost floating right on your front porch! Even complicated-looking decorations are easy to put together if you know what you’re doing. For instance, you can make a spider web dream catcher with string, glue, and a hanger.
