Jess Hanebury had tried many common weight-loss regimens before, but none of them worked.

“I’ve been a vegetarian for 10+ years, but it’s very easy to be a chubby vegetarian.”

Jess needed more motivation and incentive.

It wasn’t until she got engaged to her fiance, Mike, that Jess got serious about losing weight.

With Jess having a specific vision of her future wedding dress and how she wanted to look for her big day, she went all in.

“I really just decided that I was going to get a bike, start counting calories, and financially commit to losing this weight!”

She bet on herself using HealthyWage, a health and wellness company that pays to lose weight.

Jess won $2,036 for losing 51 pounds in 7 months.

Here’s how she did it.

Financially Committed to Being Healthy

Some bride-to-be’s make the mistake of crash dieting before their big day because they want to look good in photos; however, slimness doesn’t equate to being healthy, nor is it sustainable!

Jess was very clear on how she wanted to feel.

“I wanted to be healthy, not skinny. It was important to me that this [challenge] was about getting in control of my body, getting in control of my fitness, and getting in control of my health,” she said.

To accomplish this, Jess used the HealthyWage Prize Calculator to customize her personal weight loss challenge. She decided how many pounds she wanted to lose by searching online what a healthy weight for her height is and used that as a benchmark.

Then she decided on the amount of time she thinks she can achieve it. In this case, 7 months.

To complete setting up the challenge, “I made a larger monthly bet on myself to commit to it even more!”

Jess was ready. She had the motivation to not lose the money she bet on herself, to feel good for her wedding, and the incentive that HealthyWage would reward her with $2,000 if she achieves her goal.

The Journey to Winning

“I’m not a runner, and I don’t have a car, so I got an exercise bike,” Jess said.

She also utilized a calorie counting app to help tie it all together. By adding in her bike and steps activity, she stayed within her calorie consumption on a daily basis. Since she was aware of her calories going in and out, she made sure to give herself treats too.

“I was learning about my body and having the lifestyle that I wanted. Can’t live on all greens all the time!”

It also became a game for her. “When I did have junk food, it was quality junk food. I wanted to make it count,” and it was something she can look forward to.

“This system lets me find what worked for me and to lose weight on my own terms, find my own portions, foods, etc. HealthyWage was the motivator and the regular check-ins before my goal date made me stick to it.”

Now that Jess has won $2,036 for losing 51 pounds in 7 months, what is she going to do with the money?

“The wedding will probably take most of it. As well as taxes. And…underwear! My old underwear doesn’t fit anymore!”

All About Mindset & Motivation

Prior to getting started with HealthyWage, Jess was happy with herself. She knew exactly why she gained weight (social activities, pizza, wine!) and treasured the happy memories that came with it.

But she was determined to feel healthy for her wedding and to wear her dream dress. That was her motivation.

That’s key to the HealthyWage challenge. It isn’t a weight loss regimen or a diet program as the company’s main purpose is facilitating your bet.

You put up the collateral and choose your payout amount. You conduct your weigh-ins. You choose your weight-loss goal and time frame.
HealthyWage gives the platform for you to do so, and a community that can help with tips and recipes. Jess’s future brother-in-law even signed up for HealthyWage and they’ve bonded over their shared weight loss experience!

Get Paid to Lose Weight

If you’re ready to get paid to lose weight, here’s how to get started:

  1. Start with the HealthyWage Prize Calculator, where you’ll enter how much weight you want to lose (10-150 pounds, minimum 10% of your starting weight), how long you’ll take (6 to 18 months) and how much you want to bet ($20-$150/month). Based on that information, the calculator will determine your prize amount, up to $10,000. You can play with the calculator until you get the payout and goal just right, and you’ll know your payout amount before officially placing your bet.
  2. Sign up and lay down your bet. You agree to pay the monthly amount for the duration of the challenge.
  3. Achieve your weight-loss goal, and win your prize! You’ll start and end your challenge with a video-recorded weigh-in to demonstrate your weight loss. Throughout the challenge, it’s recommended that you use the HealthyWage app to log weekly weigh-ins (these are just self-reported, not verified by video). It’s a great way to keep yourself accountable and on track to meeting your goal!
  4. If you don’t hit your goal, your money goes to support HealthyWage, including prizes for others who achieve their goals.
