Verizon Customers Can Get Up to $100 in the Latest Settlement

Attention Verizon customers (current and former): if you haven’t received notification yet regarding the recent Verizon Wireless class action lawsuit, sweep your inbox or mail again, and read on for more details.

The notifications state that you may be eligible to receive a one-time payment of up to $100 from the $100 million class action settlement, as it alleges that customers were unfairly hit with an administrative charge. Due to this, it was considered a “deceptive scheme,” even though Verizon denies the misdeeds, they are settling to pay affected customers.

How to Qualify for the Verizon Settlement

If you had a Verizon postpaid phone plan between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023, and  paid any of these charges on your phone bill:

  • Administrative Charge
  • Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge

You’ll qualify! This settlement includes former and current Verizon customers, who’ll get notices to inform them as well as an official confirmation code. However, since notices can get lost, we’ll provide the details on how to apply.

For those unsure if they had a postpaid phone plan, if you signed a contract with Verizon and are billed monthly, you are on a postpaid plan. In contrast, a prepaid plan is a pay-as-you-go service without a long-term commitment.

How to File the Claim

Head to the official claim site and review the dates and information. You have until April 15, 2024, to make it, as the portal closes at 11:59 PM Pacific that day.

If you received a notice, you’ll have access to the official Notice ID as well as the Confirmation Code to enter into the form. However, you can still look up your login by providing your Verizon Account Number and Last Name if you don’t.

How Much Will I Get Paid and When?

As with all class action lawsuits, the exact amount each person receives isn’t known until after the deadline, as it depends on how many people file a claim and are approved.

However, the minimum payout for approved members is expected to start at $15 and grow by increments of $1 based on how long you were a Verizon customer. The longer you had the postpaid plan outlined in the settlement, the bigger your payment since you most likely had to pay multiple administrative charges. The biggest or maximum payout will be $100 per approved customer and will be sent via check or electronic payment.

In terms of when you’ll get the payment, it depends if the court approves the settlement. When it’s gone through final approvals and any resolved appeals, payments will be issued, which, like other class action lawsuits, will likely take months to a year. In some cases, a few years!

But this is still money you could be owed, so be sure to submit a claim if you were/are a Verizon customer who had a postpaid plan between January 1, 2016, and November 8, 2023, and paid administrative charges. The deadline once again is April 15, 2024.
