Cube Cube App Review: Simple Puzzles, Real Prizes

Old school puzzling just got a 21st-century makeover with the introduction of one game that allows you to go head to head with other puzzlers and win cash prizes: Cube Cube

What is Cube Cube?

Cube Cube is a free mobile esports app described as “fun” and “addicting” by various app reviewers on the iTunes App Store. What differentiates the game from others is the ability for players to gamble and win real money.

While you do not have to pay to play, the app does not give you cash by earning achievements. You can only earn money by depositing your own, and waging money is the only way to move up tiers, according to various reviewers.

The game is developed by Tether Studios, and is powered by Skillz. The popular competition platform which powers many similar play-for-cash games offers features such as leaderboards, trophies, cash or virtual currencies, and a loyalty program that rewards you for playing.

How Does It Work?

Cube Cube’s description of itself is a “simple puzzle game with deep strategy.”

The app is a lot like Tetris in the sense that the main goal is to put together pieces. The major differences are that there isn’t gravity to cause the pieces to fall and you cannot change the direction of the shapes to fit.

Instead, you must attempt to fit pieces throughout the board on your own. Key features include the ability to drag blocks to the board, with the intent to fill rows side-to-side or top-to-bottom and clear them out.

After opening the app and picking a name and avatar, you can begin playing. Each match lasts three minutes.

You can earn bonus points for clearing multiple rows with one move and clearing rows in back-to-back turns. If you can’t fit shapes on the grid, the game ends early.

Cube Cube offers head-to-head matches with other players or large multiplayer tournaments. In head-to-head games, both players get the same shapes in the same order.

The game will match you up with players around the world at the same skill level as you. The player who finishes with the most points wins and takes home some cash.

Can You Make Money?

Cube Cube ranks #90 in the “Casino” category in the iTunes App Store. The app has an average 4.6/5.0 star rating based on 7,500 reviews.

Some negative reviews accuse the game of using bots or delaying the decision on who wins to favor the opponent. That said, most reviews are 5 stars.

Is It Available for Everyone?

The app is available for players 17 and older around the world. Cash tournaments are prohibited in states including AZ, AR, CT, DE, FL, IL, LA, MD, MT, SC, SD, and TN.

Players that live in any of these regions can still play for fun with the app’s virtual currency.

Is Cube Cube Worth Your Time?

If you love piecing things together and enjoy Tetris-like puzzle games, you may want to give it a try. If you’re simply trying to make money, however, your time is probably better spent doing something more productive, or buying a lottery ticket.
