Kids grow up so darn fast, don’t they? That also means they grow out of almost everything you buy for them quickly.

When it comes to more expensive items, like car seats, buying a new one each year can get seriously pricey. That’s why Target wants to help!

As part of National Baby Safety Month, Target is running a car seat trade-in event until September 13th.

Most Target locations nationwide will have a drop-off box near Guest Services where you can bring your car seat. In exchange, you’ll get a 20% off coupon for car seats, strollers, or other baby gear! Coupons are valid until September 14th.

Not only will this program help you save money and keep your kids safe, it’s environmentally friendly too. After Target collects your car seat, they work with Waste Management to recycle them.

Since launching the program 2016, Target has safely recycled 11.9 million pounds of car seats. That’s the weight of 600 blue whales!

National Baby Safety Month

The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association has been sponsoring Baby Safety Month since 1983.

Their goal is to promote safer baby products, and Target is just one of their partners. They offer great resources for parents, and with deals like this, they help protect your wallet and your peace of mind.

When To Change Your Car Seat

Car seats don’t last forever, which makes trade-in events like this so valuable. If you’re not sure when you should trade-in your seat, the federal government has some suggestions based on your child’s age, height and weight.

Consumer Reports also has some great tips on when to upgrade your car seat:

  • When your seat expires, usually after six years
  • When your baby is one year old
  • If your car seat has been in a crash or is damaged

So head to Target and get the best bang for your buck and safety for your kids!
