October is LGBTQ+ History Month in the U.S. The holiday was founded in 1994 as a commemoration of the first and second national marches on Washington D.C. for LGBTQ+ rights, which took place on October 14th, 1979, and October 11th, 1987 respectively. Twenty-six years after the establishment of the holiday, six other countries celebrate at the same time.

Throughout the month, organizations and companies show their support and allyship for the LGBTQ+ community. However, few do so as deliciously as Nabisco.

The Oreo-maker is collaborating with PFLAG (Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) to promote the #ProudParent campaign, a celebration of supportive families of LGBTQ+ individuals. As part of the program, Nabisco is giving away 10,000 free packages of rainbow Oreos, and both organizations are promoting a new short film called Proud Parent.

“Having a supportive, affirming family—and committed allies—is crucial for the health and wellbeing of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people,” PFLAG executive director Brian K. Bond said in a statement. “We are grateful for our partnership with OREO, and for OREO’s commitment to our shared vision of a diverse and inclusive world, made better by loving, proud parents and allies.”

#ProudParent and Free Rainbow Oreos

To participate in the #ProudParent campaign and take home a limited-edition box of rainbow Oreos, you’ll need to take to social media. Nabisco and PFLAG are asking parents to post on Instagram or Twitter about what allyship means to them. Posts should include #ProudParent, #Giveaway, and tag the @Oreo account.

Cookies are up for grabs through the end of October or until all 10,000 packages are gone, whichever comes first. You can’t buy rainbow Oreos at the store though – they’re only available through the #ProudParent campaign.

You can find all the details on the giveaway here, and watch Proud Parent here. Overall, the goal of the campaign, the giveaway, and the film are to promote love and support. Although the giveaway ends this month, the #ProudParent campaign will last for a whole year!
