These States Have Tax-Free Back to School Shopping Weekends in July and August

Back-to-school shopping consumes a lot of time and money. Many states have tax holidays in July and August to help alleviate some of that burden. Often these breaks apply to a number of products but can be most efficiently utilized by thrifty school shoppers.

Here are the states offering tax breaks this month. Some states start as early as 12:01 a.m. on the first day listed, so check your individual state’s policy to see when you can hit the store!

Alabama

When: July 23 – 23

What: School Supplies (up to $50 per item), Clothing and Footwear (up to $100 per item), Computers (up to $750), and Books (up to $30)

Arkansas

When: August 5 – 6

What: School Supplies (no maximum), Clothing and footwear (up to $100 per item)

Connecticut

When: August 20 – 26

What: Clothing and footwear (up to $100 per item)

Florida

When: July 24 – August 6

What: School supplies (up to $50), clothing, footwear (up to $100 per item), the first $1,500 on personal computers

Iowa

When: August 4 – 5

What: Clothing and footwear (up to $100 per item, doesn’t include athletic gear/uniforms)

Maryland

When: August 13 – 19

What:  Clothing and footwear (up to $100 per item)

Massachusetts

When: August 12 – 13

What: Certain retail items purchased for personal use up to $2,500 (doesn’t include meals, motor vehicles, gas, tobacco, marijuana, alcoholic beverages, and more)

Missouri

When: August 4 – 6

What: School supplies (up to $50 per item), personal computers (up to $1,500 per), clothing (up to $100 per)
